I am more than happy to announce that the Friendship of Peoples project, that was frozen for more than half of a year, due to my intense engagement with Planetarium #1, is now in active phase again.
Friendship of Peoples explores shared ownership in creative production, using a modular synthesizer as a case study. First of all this seemingly weird conjunction addresses some of the notorious problems you might expect from any collaborative art production that has a singular physical object as an outcome. We will try to all those like “who owns what? who takes care of schedules? what happens if it is sold?” by delegating them to algorithms. Secondly, it opposes modular synth's common-sense of a highly customizable personal music instrument that exactly fits one's artistic needs and suggests a “black box full of randomness” model instead.
Anyone, willing to take part in this experiment should commit a module (or few) into our co-owned system. Then, the modular would travel among us, so that we all use it in rotation. Smart contracts would keep track of it and distribute all the income from performances and exhibitions among us, after allocating enough money for logistics.
I have already built eight modules and now work on the next five. Balinese traditional carving masters are making a teak wood case for it. I asked them to make designs by themselves, the only criteria was that the case should make people happy.

Спешу поделиться радостной новостью - проект Дружба Народов, замороженный на время работы над Планетарием №1, снова набирает обороты.
Дружба Народов - это эксперимент совместного владения продуктом коллективного творчества, в форме модульного синтезатора. На первый взгляд кажущееся странным сочетание адресовано многим печально известным проблемам, которые возникают в творческом коллективе, создающим нечто цельное совместными усилиями. Мы попробуем решить все эти “кому что принадлежит? кто следит за расписанием? как поступить в случае продажи?” делегировав их алгоритмам. Кроме этого, проект противопоставляет традиционной логике модуляров, как персональных, кастомных музыкальных инстументов, собранных под нужды конкретного артиста, модель ”черного ящика, полного сюпризов”.
Все желающие принять участие в этом эксперименте могут сделать это добавив один или несколько собственных модулей в нашу общую систему. Затем, модуляр будет путешествовать между всеми нами и мы будем пользоваться им по очереди. Умные контракты будут следить за распределением средств между всеми участниками, а также за выделением средств на логистику и эксплуатационными расходами.
Я уже построил восемь модулей и работаю еще над пятью. В это время Балийские резчики по дереву делают кейс из тикового дерева. Дизайн выбирают сами, от меня единственные вводные были “коробка должна радовать людей”
